stuart murphy's speech

Last updated : 20 February 2011 By Shaded

We're conscious that a number of fans had difficulty hearing Fans Rep Stuart Murphy's half time address to the magnificent Dundee support.  At the end of a massively important week for the club, Stuart had words of praise for the fans, players, management and backroom staff at Dens while paying tribute to all who suffered losses.  Here is the full text version...

"It has been a long and winding road the since we entered Administration in September but as you know, thanks to the players, management, staff, and everyone with the best interests of Dundee FC at heart, we cleared a significant hurdle in our battle for survival last week.

Many people had written us off as a lost cause, many people had lost faith and many people questioned if we could go through it all again.

Well, I now stand here in front of the best fans in the world to say a massive thank you.  To say thank you for not writing Dundee FC off as a lost cause, for not losing faith in Dundee FC and for having the passion and desire to help Dundee FC in their time in need.

For this, I applaud the management, players, everyone behind the scenes, everyone who has volunteered, everyone who has donated money to our cause and to each and every fan who bleeds dark blue who have went above the call of duty to save our team and who have refused to lie down and let this great club die.

While we are on the road to recovery and the future is looking brighter, we do not see this as a time for celebrations.

Many people have lost their jobs and many companies have lost significant amounts of money.

These people who have lost out deserve to be held in the highest esteem for what they have done and for the dignity they have shown.  What they have done will never be forgotten.

With this in mind, I would like everyone to show their appreciation to these people, with a round of applause because that is the very least they deserve.

As previously stated we are not out the woods yet.  Moving forward, we will still require the same amount of dedication that everyone has showed throughout this ordeal to make us a sustainable, community-owned club.

To everyone here today, and many more scattered across the globe, Dundee is more than just a football club that they support, it's a way of life.

One thing we know for sure after seeing the blood, sweat and tears the fans have shed since September, is that you lot are definitely up for the battle.

Thank you again for everything you have done to get us into a position where we might just have a future – if we can continue to stand defiantly together then we can win our fight, keep the dark blue flag flying high over Dens park forever."
