scotts statement part 2

When I think of the challenges we’ve faced as a Society, a Football Club and a group of fans during the last year I have to say I think what we’ve achieved together is utterly fantastic.  To have won the fight for survival, ensured we came out of the period of administration, got ourselves back in contention for promotion and to have maintained the level of attendances we have is again a credit to you all.

On a personal note I feel it’s been a seriously challenging year as Society Chairman and I’ll admit it has not been easy.  Thankfully I’ve shared the workload with people who have been on the whole equally committed, people not easily put off and folk who have stuck to their tasks.  To each and every one, I thank you for joining me on that journey and putting in the many hours that you have.  We are losing three of the group I’ve just mentioned – Stuart Murphy, Colin Reid and Bill Brewster and I’d like to wish all three well for the future.

Since the period of nomination and election for those interested in joining the Society Board closed we’ve had a total of six people come forward saying they’d now be willing to get involved.  We are soon to be in a position to co-opt three of them onto the Trust Board – to that end I’m therefore pleased to announce that Eddie Devlin, Steve Ayre and John Knight will be joining us at next week's scheduled meeting as Society directors.  I’m sure their undoubted skills, talent, ability and enthusiasm will add value to our group.  There are others and we’re hoping they can get more involved as volunteers – thanks to you all.

In the last year I’ve also been privileged to be appointed to the Board of the Football Club - a position I very reluctantly accepted.  The Club's Directors work every bit as hard as those on the Society Board and I’m lucky enough to be part of a group of fellow Dundee fans who are as committed a group of Football Directors that you are likely to find in any boardroom anywhere in the country.  It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be a Director of our Club but also a lot of very hard work and again I’d like to thank those I share the responsibility with.
