SAVO, STEAK PEH & MAIR

It is always sad when players leave a club and it is even more galling that these 3 talented young players have chosen to ply their trade in the lower divisions of England. It is my view that the better footballing sides in our much maligned SPL are as at least the same standard as the top half dozen in the English Division one and Celtic, Rangers and maybe even Hearts could compete in the EPL .

The harsh facts in this matter is that these players would not have moved from Dens Park in any of the last 3 seasons due to cash constraints BUT that is partly the reason why we have a crucial CVA meeting this week.

The 3 "M" are all excellent pros and above average players but in my opinion can all be replaced by our astute manager for less money that these guys were looking for.

My abiding memories of these 3 players were Steak Peh MacKay making his break through in the Bonetti "second" year team and keeping his place despite dozens of foreigners coming through the revolving Dens Park door. Lee Mair - classy, elegant and very comfortable on the ball whose cup final performance was outstanding and Savo who is an excellent finisher who since regaining his fitness has finally fulfilled the potential that we all knew he had.

The Dundee Mad team are sorry to see all 3 players go but understand the economics behind the clubs decision not to offer any more money. We wish the lads all the best wherever they end up plying their career and we hope that they will look back at their time at Dundee as happy and certainly eventful. The 3 "M"s were good servants for DFC and I’m sure they will be welcomed back in the correct fashion if they end up playing against us at some time in the future
