Portadown Help and Ireland Info thanks to rips

Hello!

I just wanted to give you some information on your visit to Portadown this Saturday that may be of use.

I assume most of you will be staying in Belfast next weekend. Well, Portadown is approx 30 miles south of Belfast and is on the main Belfast to Dublin railway line.

There are a number of trains you can get from Belfast to Portadown and the journey time is approx 50 minutes. At the moment Northern Ireland Railways has an offer on during July and August where you can go anywhere in Northern Ireland on the rail network for £6.50 return providing its a day return. Ask at the station for a 'Day-Tracker ticket to Portadown'.

Check out this link on Northern Ireland Railways for details of timetables etc.

Once you arrive in Portadown train station, you can walk to the ground in about 20 mins. Most people should know the directions to Shamrock Park. If you prefer you can get a taxi which would take about 5-10mins at a cost of approx £3 or £4. Call-a-Cab if you want to use them are on Tel No: 02838 331010 or 02838 351010.

Most bars in the town centre are OK but are not keen on supporters with footy tops. The best bet is to get up to the ground where you can go to a bar called 'The Chalet' which welcomes footy fans and there's no problems with club colours. It is across the road from the entrance to Shamrock Park.

There's also a Social Club inside Shamrock Park where you can drink before, during and after the match if you so wish.

Check out this link for a humorous guide to bars in Portadown.

The match itself will probably be a fiver in. The club has produced a match programme for the game for £1.50. It is a double edition along with the friendly we played with TNS (Wales) last Saturday.

If any of you are staying in Portadown, I'm afraid there's not much in the way of nightlife. Some bars do carry on to 1am and have a band or DJ but if you want nightlife, Belfast is the place to go.

By the way for those staying in Belfast, Great Victoria Street Rail Station is closer to the city centre than Belfast Central. Theres loads of bars and nightclubs etc there.

Lastly, I hope you all enjoy your stay and enjoy the match.

If you want any other details or if I can be of any help, you can send me a message.

All the best, cheers!
