Lee Wilkie Set To Move

Last updated : 20 February 2002 By Dave Webster
No footballer likes to be out of the game for long. Lee Wilkie must be feeling the Gods are against him.

He hasn't played regular football at Dens since early last season and a series of trials for other clubs came to nothing. Plymouth, Notts County and Falkirk all had him on loan spells but the end product was zero.

A recent rumour that Dundee United were about to pounce for the former Under-21 central defender also came and went.

Now the news that both Plymouth (one of the clubs he was on loan to) and Portsmouth have had bids accepted by Dundee will be good news for Lee.

Still only 21 years of age, the 6'4" Dundee born lad played 11 times for Dundee last season, 15 the season before and 26 the one before that. He was undoubtedly rated as one of the most promising young players in Scotland and Lee will be keen to get back in action.

The original price tag of £200,000 placed on the player by Dundee could be cut by more than half as the player has been out of the first team for so long.

I'm sure all Dees fans will wish Lee well and hope he fulfills the great promise shown not so long ago.

If he does I hope Dundee have taken the sensible precaution of including a clause in his contract to the effect that if and when he plays for Scotland or moves on for a much bigger fee Dundee are suitably compensated for giving away a tremendous talent for "sweeties."
