Fan Zhiyi, the popular Chinese Captain, who played for Dundee during the past season and is still a signed player, was awarded the prestigious Asian Footballer of the Year Award at a packed ceremony in Shanghai yesterday.

The popular Fan, who scored two winning goals for Dundee against Hibs and Falkirk beat the talented Li Tie (another who was linked to Dundee until the move fell through) into second place.

Fan joined Dundee on the 15th October, 2001, from Crystal Palace, for a fee reckoned to be in the region of £300,000.

He played 18 games, and Dundee lost only 8 times when he appeared in the team.

Fan is currently on loan to Shanghai Cosco and they are in hot pursuit of his signature on a permanent basis.

At present he is on loan to them until this summer. They are faced with strong opposition from their rivals and Fan's former club Shanghai Shenhua.

The presentation took place at the Football Expo 2002 ceremony in which he carried out some P.R. work for Dundee F.C.
