Its fast approaching the date for our annual charity game,we are now in the fifth year,it all started with a chat between me and paul from the sunderland footymad forum.after knocking our heads together we came up with a 6 team 5 aside comp in sunderland.ex dee big ian macdonald lined up in the scotland ranks,what a down to earth lad big ian is,however the bert slater memoriable trophy sayed in england.
the second year saw the game staged at dens where with ray farningham/bobby glennie/big ian in the scottish ranks alongside dode webster and deeko from the forum the scots ran out 9.2 winners with our goalie glasgow dee getting man of the match believe it or not ,so much so that arbroath wanted to sign him,a fact that glasgow dee still does not believe,the modest goalie refused to go out and speak to the scout,thinking that i was winding him up.
the next year we were down at sunderland again where we lost on pens,having said that we were robbed when we had a last minute goal dissallowed,the ball was clearly over the line yet the english ref played on despite the english lads sayn the ball was over the line,big john macphail our now ceo harry maclean turned out for us in this game,for the record i still havnt saw john miss a penalty.
last year we were back at dens and once again big ian macdonald and john macphail and also bobby geddes were within our ranks,however they were not enough to stop us slippn to another defeat at the hands of the english who were led very capably by an ex newcastle and forrest player.
onto this year and we are again back down in sunderland on the 3rd sept ,this time looking for revenge big time,and we have a wee surprise in store for mr ex newcastle and forrest,one thing for sure is that he wont be allowed time on the ball to spray his 100% accurate passes about the park.neil brand the ex uefa referee has once again stated he will official the game,neil and his assistants have beenavery good find for us,and officals the game really well and fairly,still wont stop wullie douglas approaching him with a nip or two though
