End of Season Rumours

Last updated : 30 March 2003 By Dave Webster
As the season reaches the final stages the old rumour mongers are out in force again. The transfer window killed off the fun of speculation and way out forecasting for fans who believed they knew exclusively who their club were about to sign.

For some time it has been rumoured that ex dark blue favourite Ian Anderson was on his way back to Dens. It was strongly felt that he would arrive before last January's transfer window closed but nothing came of it.

The rumour has been resurrected once more and the fact that Ian is out of favour at Preston North End has certainly pointed to his moving on from Deepdale. Currently out on a month's loan to Tranmer Rovers from the 27th March several posters on my board have suggested he might be heading back to Dens next season, possibly on a free transfer. An elegant player in his days at Dens he was a skillful midfield player with the ability to glide past defenders and send over delightful cross balls. Could Ian Anderson be on the Dundee wanted list?

Steven Glass, aged 8, playing for
my Lincraig team
The latest rumour, learned from a source close to the player, is that Dundee are exploring the possibility of bringing Dundee born Steven Glass to Dens. A Dundee United fan as a boy he came from my own Lincraig team, first as a Goalkeeper, then, thank goodness I managed to persuade him to play outfield and as young as 8 he was playing left of midfield.

Joining Aberdeen from Fairmuir Boys as a 16 year old his outstanding pace and skills down the left side became a feature and many thought he was certain to go on to play for Scotland. A £650,000 transfer fee took him to Newcastle and his form was excellent until injury put him out of the first team plans. He never regained his best form on return and was transferred to Watford. Though playing in the first team his current club have declared he will not have his contract renewed at the end of this season, despite a stunning free kick match winner a few weeks ago.

Dundee have made enquiries about the 27 year old, though no doubt at this stage of the season Jim Duffy will be checking out quite a few players for the next campaign. We shall have to wait and see. The rumour mill will no doubt speculate on others in the weeks and months to come.
