Duffy Gets His Man

Jim Duffy today completed the signing of Steve Lovell from Portsmouth. The youngster, who had been put out on loan to QPR returned to home base when he heard that Dundee wanted to sign him.

6'1" in height, good in the air, fast and strong. These are his attributes, according to the members of the Pompey legion I contacted when we first showed an interest in him. The more critical among them compared him to a "headless chicken". Why worry, we've had more than our fair share of them. The more sensible Portsmouth fans said if he got first team football on a regular basis he could yet turn out to be a decent signing. "He's one for the future" another said, and all were agreed on his pace and strength.

I'm a Juan Sara fan (who can fail to be - his derby hat trick made him a legend in Dark Blue, and ensured immortality). But to be honest, he's became too nicey nicey and he's not really putting himself about in the way a player searching for the "big transfer" should be. Lovell's arrival might just be the catalyst the big Argentinian needs to get his form back.

If Lovell can show the Nacho Novo spirit (might be interesting to see them both play together), he could be the man we need to start getting the goals our outfield display deserved against both Hearts and Dunfermline.

Welcome to Dens, Steve Lovell, yet another foreign player, this time from England. I doubt you'll see many St George's crosses being flown, but we'll take you to our hearts, God bless you, if you can conjure up the winning goal against United next week. Good luck.
