DUNDEE BOSS Gordon Chisholm last night confirmed a possible interest in snapping up freed St Johnstone defender Gary Irvine,

But chis admitted that, with the player budget for next term facing a severe cut and other places in the squad requiring to be filled, a right-back isn’t top of his priorities.

“Gary Irvine is a good player, no doubt about that, and one of a number of people that would interest us,” he said. “But for now I am waiting to see the full list of players who are available before making any moves.

“We have funds at our disposal, but nothing like there were here last year.

“The budget is going to be a lot tighter than previously and there are positions we need to fill—left-back for example—ahead of right-back.”

Glad to see chis is waiting and not being hasty as we have learned a valuble lesson from jocky last season, still i reckon left back and a winger and an attacking midfielder is ou main concerns for next season.

Granted paton never had the best season last season but he was carrying an injury and has proved he can be a valuable player for the dee's when not hampered by injury.

A wee question however re funds available, correct me if i am wrong but the supporters backed the team to the hilt last season, and to say that the spending will be severely cut sticks in my throat a bit,yes jocky made a bit off a mess on the transfer front but in my opinion the board have to accept a bit of the blame for sanctioning some of the transfers, lets face it, we knew sparky and harkins were good players and their imput and return, when played in the correct roles were excellent,so my thoughts are more stringent vetting of possible targets and spend the cash on the correct players and we will get out of this god awful league
