Dundee recorded a great victory tonight against in-form Partick Thistle, which took them to fifth place in the SPL.

The first chance of the game fell to Dundee's Steve Lovell but the headed Nacho Novo's cross wide of the target.

Two minutes later a good cross in to the Dundee six-yard area was missed by two Thistle strikers and cleared by Lee Dair.

Twice in a minute midway through the first half Novo was unlucky not to open the scoring when firstly his left-foot shot crashed against the crossbar and less than a minute later his right-foot shot was well saved by Kenny Arthur.

With 38 minutes played Dundee went 1-0 up. Dundee won a foul 25 yards out and with all the big men up and the visitors waiting for a cross, Garry Brady fired the ball in to the back of the net leaving Arthur stranded.

With 51 minutes gone Dundee scored their second when Fabian Caballero fired his free-kick low in to the box and Juan Sara knocked it past Arthur with a cheeky back-heel from six yards.

With 67 minutes played Steve Lovell scored Dundee's third when a well worked free-kick between Caballero and Jonay Santos Hernandez saw the latter cross into the middle where Lovell headed home from close range.

Three minutes later Gerry Britton grabbed the goal back for the visitors when he knocked Jamie Buchan's shot past Julian Speroni.

Five minutes later Dundee regained their three-goal advantage when Lovell smashed the ball into the back of the net after good play by Dave Mackay
