Dundee 1 Gretna 3

Ten-man Dundee collapsed to a dominant Gretna as the impressive visitors pulled no punches and hauled themselves back into title contention with this well deserved victory.

It was a game which opened with much effort from both teams but little creativity giving little excitement to warm the hands of a brave Autumnal crowd. But slowly Gretna wrestled control of the game creating three good chances in quick succession with McMenamin being the guilty party on all three occasions.

But against the run of play, it was the Dees who took the lead on the half-hour. Andy McLaren, who had gradually worked his way into the game, laid the ball back from the by-line for Brian McGinty.

The on loan striker took his time to control the ball before smacking a low left-foot shot from the edge of the box just inside the post giving Main no chance.

The visitors deservedly equalised six minutes later with a penalty from McMenamin after Greg Strong had foolishly palmed down Graham's tame cross. And the visitors really should have taken the lead two minutes after the break when their Australian midfielder, Eric Paartalu astonishingly fluffed a gaping goal.

With manager Alex Rae sitting in the stand following last week's stupid dismissal against Partick Thistle he must have cringed to see his star striker Andy McLaren receive two silly cautions in two minutes and be given his marching orders in the 67th minute for a tussle with Steve Tosh.

The Dees were further punished in the 78th minute with a stunning goal from Tosh; the midfielder curling an unstoppable 18-yard beauty into the top corner. It was game over for the sad dark blues in the 90th minute with a low driven 14-yard shot from Jenkins which silenced the crowd.
