Dundee improved their league position with an emphatic victory over local rivals Brechin.

Dundee were on top right from the start, and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 14th minute. A long ball from Callum McDonald was missed by Paul Deas and Simon Lynch rounded Craig Nelson before scoring.

Brechin hit back and after 24 minutes a Stuart Callaghan chip was well saved by Kelvin Jack. After 29 minutes a McDonald snap-shot was well saved by Craig Nelson.

Dundee stretched their lead on 30 minutes when Steven Craig beat David White out on the left and ran in to score with an angled drive.

Dundee made it 3-0 four minutes later when Brechin tried to play offside and Lynch darted through the middle to score.

Brechin tried to hit back, and Scott Walker headed wide. Then Kevin Byers had a drive saved by Jack.

Brechin got a goal back right on half time when Callaghan drove home a cross from Charlie King.

Brechin attacked at the start of the second half, and Paul Ritchie drove just wide from the edge of the box.

Any hopes of a Brechin fight-back were dashed after 67 minutes when Callaghan handled the ball and was ordered off for a second booking.

Dundee held on comfortably to their two-goal advantage and might have stretched their lead nine minutes from time when Lynch should have done better than head wide from a good position.
