Borussia Monchengladbach Match Report

The following is my translation of the match report from www.borussia.de the official site of Borussia Monchengladbach. I have included a link to the German version below in case anyone else can be more accurate.

Borussia 2:0 Dundee

Borussia won the warm up game against Scottish 1st Division Dundee FC 2.0 this evening. Goal scorers in Bramberg were Thorben Marx and Karim Matmour.

Compared with the starting line up against Panathinaikos of Athens on Monday club coach Michael Frontzeck made 5 changes. Instead of Christofer Heimeroth in goal a half each was given to Frederic Lohe and 17 year old Marc-André ter Stegen who was making his debut for Borussia's first team. At centre half Thomas Kleine replaced Roel Brouwers, in centre midfield Marco Reus played instead of Karim Matmour and in attack Roberto Colautti as the second striker. Thorben Marx and Michael Bradley acted as "Doppelsechs" (my note: in Germany this means holding midfielders), and Frontzeck announced before the game that Reus (on the right) and Arango (on the left) would play as wingers.

Borussia had the first chances. After a fast wing attack of Arango in the 11th minute, Colautti missed with a nice header only just missing the target. Five minutes later Raul Bobadilla from 20 metres measured perfectly a free kick above the wall onto the crossbar. At the other end Borussia were lucky as goalkeeper Löhe came out too early and was beaten by Dundee forward Gary Harkins who hit the post . All together in attack Borussia made too many small mistakes and were inaccurate too often. Therefore when Thorben Marx scored in the 32nd minute with a great distant shot which gave Dundee keeper Tony Bullock no chance it was a power strike, not out playing the opposition.

At the beginning of the second half time the Borussia fans got to see eight new players and also immediately the second goal. Moses Lamidi played quickly on the left side, left two Scottish defenders and shot sharply from a tight angle to the corner of the goal, saved by goalkeeper Bullock only for a deflection by Karim Matmour to sneak a goal. 700 spectators – almost all Borussia followers - had to wait until 73 minutes for the next big chance in Bramberg. Karim Matmour appeared, after nice passing of Oliver Neuville, unmarked in front of the goal of the Scots, but hit the side netting with his shot. Shortly after Fabian Bäcker came into the penalty box and had a free shot but again missed the goal.  Oliver Neuville nearly  scored the 3rd goal with an acrobatic attempt after nice wing play from Lamidi, but Bullock was alert and steered the ball wide of the goal.

With this match against Dundee the training camp in Saalfelden has come to an end. Tomorrow the Borussia squad return to Mönchengladbach. The next training session is in the Borussia-Park on Friday at 15.30.
