Update on Fans' Ballot

With last week’s deadline for voting now passed, Dundee FC fans will no doubt be anticipating the result of the ballot on whether or not Dundee FC Supporters’ Society should maintain a minimum shareholding in Dundee FC on the fans’ behalf. Representatives from the Society and the independent Election Management Group appointed to oversee and validate the ballot will meet on Thursday. The Society Board would like to thank everyone who took the time to return their papers and vote.

Society Chairman Scott Glenday said “It was always important that we sought the views of our members on the subject of further investment and the potential impact on the majority shareholding in the Club. We’re certainly keen to attract additional funds to the Club’s coffers but we had to know in advance their views on any potential situation where we give up what we purchased on their behalf. To have done so without prior consultation would have been ridiculous given the lengths many went to in order to save the Club and the generous sums of money they provided to buy it.

“The EMG will be counting the votes and validating the returns, we’ll meet later this week and shortly after that we’ll make the results public. I’d appeal to supporters who have not yet joined our group or any who have yet to inform the Society of the likes of a change of address to do so. We’ll shortly be heading towards the time of year when we request nominations to the Society Board and there is always the possibility, as there is every year, that could be a contested affair. There’s no point in making contributions and not having a say on what happens, likewise there is no point in having a say and not keeping your contact details up to date. We’ve a website, PO Box, postal and e-mail addresses as well as representation in the stands at home games.

“We’re committed as a group to ongoing additional investment and it’s heartening to hear that others are interested in joining us. We should be proud of our efforts as at the turn of the year I didn’t know a Dundee fan who wasn’t praying that we’d have a team to support this season. We’ve survived but there is still much to do, we need fans to get along to games when they can and to continue to demonstrate that this is a Club with proud supporters worth preserving, a Club worth all the toil and effort that went into keeping it alive.”
