Second half

Corners have been rare. Dundee force their third as the game restarts. Penman tries a snap shot a minute later, but its well over.

Aberdeen show their teeth again when Little beats Ure and makes Liney go full – length to turn his shot round the post. A foul against Cox leads to a soft third goal for the Dons in 51 minutes. LITTLE takes a free from just outside the box. Cooke makes to head it and misses. The ball glides on past Liney, who appears to have his eye on Cooke.

Penman and Smith change places to try to get some bite into the Dundee attack. Gilzean trundles a shot along the front of goal with no one in position to profit. Dundee are tip tapping and the Dons are still goal – hungry.

Stuart makes a desperate sliding tackle to rob Fraser six yards from goal when another score seems certain.

Gilzean counts

At last Dundee find their way to goal. A long lob by Smith flies goal wards. Up

jumps GILZEAN and his header glides over Ogston’s head into the net. (66 minutes).

A snap try by Brownlee at the other end almost restores the three goal lead. Thom brings Liney full – length to clutch at the post.

Back at the other end, Gilzean stumbles past Ogston towards an open goal. Up pops Kinnell to boot clear at the last gasp. But these are only flashes. The game continues at anything like "derby" pace, and perhaps the sun is the culprit.

Young Thom almost crowns his debut with success when Liney runs out his box and has to kick the ball away. The winger collects and sends over an empty goal from 20 yards.

Name taken

The crowd is streaming away well before the end. A bit of needle creeps into the game and Burns has his name taken after a foul on Robertson. He had earlier a finger wagging from the referee.

Brownlee has a great chance in the closing minutes, but he makes a hash of a cross from the right six yards from goal.

Final score ---- Aberdeen 3, Dundee 1.

Summing up --- In spite of their three goals, Aberdeen are still no great shakes. But they put their backs into it to an extent Dundee didn’t. The Dens Park attack had hardly a kick in it and the defence had several miscalculations to account for. Ure had a poor day and was outshone by the hard - working Kinnell.
