The Bonetti Diaries

BASEL'S FAULTY START FOR THE HOSTS Ciao, listeners, Ivano Bonetti's nephew Movano here again. Well we've reached the end of the first round of Euro 2008 games and I for one have been enjoying the tournament gorgeously. Everything has been a blast. Whoever's idea it was to have an "Its A Knock Out " theme in the first part of the Opening Ceremony is a genius and should be allowed to buy a peerage immediately. Anyone who is already longing for the start of the new Scottish Premier Lodge season would have been delighted with the second half of the Ceremony as well - it was a dead ringer for any Gretna - Dundee United fixture....loads of balloons and no atmosphere. Portugal started off well and the 2-0 scoreline could have been more if they hadn't hit the Post and Bar three times. That reminds me of my saintly Uncle Juan Sara who, while at Dundee, once hit the Post Office Bar three times in one night- but he was just collecting for the Sally Army. One of the hosts, Switzerland, were very poor and they seemed to pin their hopes on Valeri Behrami, the "Swiss David Beckham" according to commentator John Flotsam. Well, you could see his point - Behrami does speak halting English and his wife is known at home as Posh Scwheiz. Anyways , I've got a mole (I've been trying to get it removed but I'm still waiting for an appointment). I've also got a Deep Throat (and, yes, I'm hoping to get plastic surgery to fix it) . Fourthly, I have a connection in the betting trade who now and again gives me good tips - unfortunately, I don't play snooker so they're sawed all good to me. But he does give me some handy information - I want to protect his identity so from now on I will refer to him only as "Plook" as he always puts his money on the nose. Anyways, Plook has told me that , despite the bad start by Switzerland and Austria, the hosts have not been written off from progressing in the tournament. In fact, there's some funny money being put on them...unfortunately, its all Zimbabwean dollars. Shame. See you soon and loads of Ciaos. Movano. .
