Rangers Shop In Wellgate Centre, Dundee

Glasgow based football club Rangers are to open a shop in the Wellgate Centre Dundee . This is a disgrace on a national scale and should not be allowed to happen.

Lets stop this shop before it gets opened.

There are a number of issues that can be used to tackle this farce and maybe all correspondence with the management of the Wellgate should include some of these points?

The Wellgate has a sign at either end saying no football colours. The security men enthusiastically apply this for Dees and Arabs.
Can we assume then that there will be no football items for sale or advertised in the window? Or will people buying such garments be escorted from the Wellgate as soon as they leave the shop?

Will the shop be open when Rangers play either Dundee or Dundee United? Anyone who has been near the Wellgate on matchday will know that the security men get very jumpy about football fans going shopping. Encouraging Rangers fans inside will lead to stress and perhaps sick absence among these poor souls. Knowledge of the possible consequence in advance and allowing staff to suffer these industrial injuries could lead to costly civil action later.

Who will be looking out for shoplifters in the other shops of the centre? Obviously the security men will be providing extra security to such a controversial shop as this. If they are deployed from elsewhere will this leave the other shops wide open to extra shoplifters, who hit profits and therefore risk the jobs of people in the other outlets?

If the no football colours rule is to be relaxed will it be permissible for those wearing dark blue and tangerine to peacefully protest in their club colours outside the shop?

How many extra shoppers will this attract to the Wellgate? They will have a traders association within the centre. Do not just make it clear to the landlords but to all the other stores. You will have a real voice if you let every other store know you are against this shop and will not visit the Wellgate in the pre-Christmas period if it goes ahead. Use the other shops as your voice. The centre management has an obligation to listen to them.

There is another thing you can do. When the shop advertises for staff get some application forms and fill them in with all kinds of imaginary information. Send in these forms. They will have such fun wading through them looking four real people they may never find any. If everyone sent in 3 forms they could be looking at thousands. Encourage everyone you know to do the same.

Write to your MSP. Both Dundee and United are having a struggle financially. Jobs must be protected. Use all the tools at your disposal.

Direct action is required so get in contact firstly with these people:

There should be no mistake what this will do to both Dundee and Dundee Utd football clubs. Lets get this stopped an apology from the Wellgate for even considering allowing these parasites to open there.
