Dee4Life’s ‘fans for life’ initiative

DUNDEE FANS are set to be given the opportunity of immortality as details of Dee4Life’s newest initiative is unveiled.

Angus firm Hi-Fli Flags, behind the huge flags which can be seen on the park before Champions League matches, are to make a massive banner featuring the Dee4Life badge.

The intention is to incorporate the name of any individual or company willing to pay for the privilege into the design.

It is envisaged that the flag will—subject to SPL and/or council regulations—be on display at Dens so subscribers can search out their name, in a similar manner to the scheme which saw fans snap up personalised bricks in the new Bobby Cox stand several years ago.

The idea was the brain-child of Forfar Dark Blues member John Burke, whose company works alongside Kirriemuir’s Hi-Fli Flags.

John said, “The Dee4Life flag will incorporate the badge with room for company names and individuals round the outside.

“Eight companies have already signed up and that has paid for the flag so everything else raised will go directly to Dee4Life.”

John hopes fans, players and sympathisers will pay £5 to have their name put on the flag.

“The names will be there permanently and the flag will belong to Dee4Life,” he said.

“Hopefully it will be put on display at Dens Park, and maybe even brought out before the games.

“It is about the size of the centre-circle and it would be great if 20 or 30 local youngsters could wave it before every game, just as they do prior to Champions League matches.”

Design work on the 20-square-yard flag has already begun and John said, “All the people I have spoken to seem to think it is a good idea and hopefully it is something for everyone.”

Details of the initiative are set to be handed out to fans during Saturday’s home clash with Kilmarnock and will also be posted on the internet.
