Calum Melville To Run Chicago Marathon For Charity
Dundee FC Director Calum Melville has undertaken to run the Chicago Marathon in October 2010 to raise funds for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).
From the Just Giving website Calum said the following:-
"I'm going to be running the Chicago Marathon in October to raise much-needed funds to help an amazing cause - the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).
They provide the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people from all over the country who are facing a far shorter future than they deserve with courage and dignity.
Doing this isn’t cheap and they need £5million a year to help those who are facing what’s absolutely unimaginable for those of us fortunate enough not to have been through it ourselves.
It is an incredibly worthy charity and I’m hoping to raise £50,000 by running the marathon on October 10. It’s my first marathon and a tough target to reach so I’d appreciate any donations you can make.
My wife Susan and I are privileged to have three great children – Scott (16), Sophie (13) and Louise (six-and-a-half). We adopted Louise when she was a baby from an orphanage in China and what we saw there has stayed with us and makes us want to do whatever we can to help kids who don’t have the greatest start in life or who suffer from serious illnesses.
By asking for sponsorship rather than making a donation myself, I hope other people who might not have known about CHAS before will be inspired to take on their own personal challenge.
