scotland v england

sunday saw dens park host the bert slater cup for the second time in its 4 year history, the event was a great success with in the region of £2300 expected to be raised once all the pledges have been received.

scotland had ex dees john mcphail/ian macdonald and bobby geddes playing ffor them, however the english proved to be too strong and ran out winning the match 4.1.

i hold my hands up and admit i got the tactics wrong in opting for a 3 man midfield,in hindsight i should have swamped midfield with five players instead of three.

we had two great chances before going behind but once the english got their noses in front there was only going to be one winner in all honesty.

we had sterling performances from mad poster regulars scott glenday/dayster but the less said about my 8 min cameo prformance the better,i was bowfing.the english had an ex notts forrest player within their ranks who was a fine player and that along with a very large average age difference took its toll on scotland, however the oldest players on the park can hold their heads high as they proved that they have played at a very high level and their fitness levels put guys like myself to shame.

note to myself if i play next year for 15 mins then i have to get the bike out the shed and do some serious peddaling to up my fitness,

the night time fund raiser went really well and its a priveledge that i had such a large turnout for the evening event, things like that make the effort all worthwhile.
