Slatter Boost For Duffy

Jim Duffy and his squad of 20 players, including two trialists, have arrived in Romania for a three game tour starting tomorrow (Friday) evening. The tournament is called the Cupa Astoria and is hosted by Rapid Bucharest.

The first game is against F.C. National Bucharest, followed by the big game against hosts Rapid on Sunday. The tour ends with a Tuesday night match against Sportul Studentesc.

No sooner will Dundee arive back home on Wednesday, 24th, than they have only 3 days before they take on Preston North End, Ian Anderson and all, on Saturday, 27th. 3 days later Rapid Bucharest arrive for a friendly on Tuesday night, 30th July.

Whilst on the tour, Jim Duffy will have every opportunity to study 22 year old Welsh Under-21 cap Danny Slatter. Danny was a promising member of the Chelsea squad when Jim was at Stamford Bridge and last season was included in the first team squad without actually playing.

Equally happy at right back or midfield he was keenly sought by Cardiff City and Portsmouth.

Another addition to the squad was a Spanish trialist, rumoured to be well known and to have played at a high level in his homeland. Jim Duffy is keeping the 21 year old's name secret for fear of other club's moving for the left sided defender who excelled in a closed door match against Airdrie United. Dundee, apparantly won this game 4-0, with a stunning scissor kick by Nacho Novo being the goal of the game.
