Interest Down South In Giorgi!

Last updated : 31 May 2002 By Dave Webster
With Celtic's interest already known, but no firm offer put in for the player, 2 English clubs are now hot on his trail. According to the Evening Telegraph one of them is Newcastle United.

Dundee fans will be hurt to lose the talented Georgian captain, but in the current financial climate I think we all knew deep down we had to part with him.

One Highly Gifted Georgain
My only grump is the figures quoted in the Telegraph. Celtic apparantly valued him at £1 milliion but Dundee estimate his worth at £1.5 million.

With 3 teams vying for his signature surely Dundee mean £1.5 million is the starting bid and not the final one. This guy's worth double that at least.

I sympathise with those on the official board who made the point that we could sell others such as Sara, Caballero, Rae and still keep Giorgi. The sad truth of the matter is that surprisingly (as they're all quality) no one so far seems to want any of these players, but they do want Giorgi Nemsadze.

What surprises me is that Ivano Bonetti, the man who brought us so many brilliant players to savour and admire, is on holiday while one of our best players is being widely sought after by so many big teams. Who's doing the wheeling and dealing, then, in his absence? Call me naive if you like but I always thought the Manager was the guy on the end of the phone when big transfers were likely. Makes me wonder about hidden agendas again. I hope it's not someone who'll take the first offer of £1.5 million. Hold out for more!

If it were me and I got an offer of £1.5 million I'd be right on to the other clubs and ask them to up the offer and take it from there.

It's always sad to see one of our stars leaving, but take solace in the fact that his transfer fee could just be enough to keep us up and running again and able to offer the player/coach post to Temuri, who I feel would do an excellent job in that capacity.  And maybe keep Julian Speroni as well.

Whatever happens if Giorgi Nemsadze leaves Dens Park he will go with the blessings of all true Dees ringing in his ears. He was quality and graced the hallowed turf, showing us what a true class player can do with a wee bag of air surrounded by a bit of leather.

In his 48 games for us in his 2 seasons at the club he displayed artistry, marvellous dribbling skills and vision that was almost divine. I'm glad I lived to see him play in dark blue. Giorgi, leave or stay, you're surely the stuff legends are made of and Dees will worship your name for decades to come.
